For my poetry book, I based it off the Maya Angelo poem, I know why the cage Bird Sings - the caged bird represents Angelou's confinement resulting from racism and oppression. It’s a mixture of my illustrations, different type, and manipulated collage images of photography by Gordon Parks – a civil rights photographer.
